I often complain to John/my friends/family/random people that I hate that I never have time for anything. That actually makes no sense, because my time is taken up by doing something CONSTANTLY! Working out is a big part of my life that does take up time, but it makes me so happy! Sometimes we have to stop and remember the things we have in life that keep us going, because there are too many times that it feels like we don’t have what we want. Let’s make Thursdays “Thankful Thursdays” and make a list of some things we are thankful for! (This may/may not have also been inspired by the enormous craving I get around this time for the 89 pounds of food I eat on Thanksgiving.. countdown: 42 days!)
Today I am thankful for:
– My amazing family & friends & Johnny who love me no matter how bratty/weird/smelly I may be.
– Peanut butter. Even though after dinner/ dessert cereal, i still manage to fit in 1-800 spoonfuls of it and will inevitably gain 90 pounds from this habit.
– Having a gym in midtown Manhattan/ LIVING IN NYC aka the dream i’ve had since i was 4 🙂
– My hair. It is the perfect wavy/curly type that can go unwashed for 5 days, be sweat filled from running, and still look pretty decent!
– Blogs… it has become my favorite thing to read them, and i am finally WRITING again which makes me beyond happy!
– Still feeling inspired every day, no matter how down i feel. Whether it be by fashion, or the trainer at the gym who was a cute surfer man and told me I do great squats, or just by seeing all of Manhattan while walking across the bridge at sunset every night.
OKAY! Time for my foods of yesterday 🙂
After 5 days of no oatmeal mess for breakfast due to traveling, it was time. I’m not even sure I put on deodorant because I just wanted to get into the kitchen to make this! These oats were the normal 1/3 cup rolled oats, 2/3 cup unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon/pumpkin spice, and some CINNAMON SWIRL protein powder I am reviewing! Also, I added my new favorite ingredient that I need to rave about: wheat bran. I had read about it on blogs and found it for $2 upstate. The stats are amazing; 1/4 cup is 30 calories/2 grams protein/6 grams fiber and I added it into my oatmeal. The texture came out AMAZING! It wasn’t exactly thicker, however it was fluffier and obviously had more volume. Not to mention, filled me up and kept me full for over 5 hours! Out of the microwave I add sugar-free pancake syrup and a blob of creamy peanut butter. Pumpkin spice coffee with skim and I was in heaven.
Lunch: salad w/ mushrooms, canned chicken, sweet potato, GOAT CHEESE (new obsession) and horseradish hummus. The guys at the cafe in my building made me try their buffalo chicken soup.. not the healthiest, but it was freezing and rainy and I didn’t care 🙂
It was super filling and held me until I left work (unheard of). On my walk I got hungry and ate greek yogurt with a scoop of peanut butter and fiber 1 twigs.
Insert boring homework and getting distracted with TV & John.. then I made an amazing stir-fry! Frozen stir-fry veggies, broccoli slaw, canned salmon, a few egg whites, a fried egg, and the most delicious dressing/sauce EVERRRR.. it’s not spicy but very peanut-y. I munched on mushrooms with garlic hummus while cooking (not pictured because I was stuffing my face.)
It had been
awhile 3 days since my last dessert cereal, so it was time. I used Trader Joe’s plain Os because they have no sugar, so I jazz them up with lots of cinnamon & pumpkin spice. Used some unsweetened almond milk, frozen bloobs, and a scoop of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter. Not pictured: probably 4 more scoops of that peanut butter. I’m using my crazy appetite lately to convince myself 5 extra pounds might be beneficial for my first NYC winter… Last year was my first year being thin during winter, and I’m not kidding you when I say it literally HURT. I was used to having 100 pounds extra to keep me warm… I would get so cold last year that it would make me sick to my stomach. I love winter fashion, but not so much the cold!
I was in bed by 10:30 to wake up at 4:15. I wanted to get to the gym to do more speed work before the 6:15 AM class Caitlin and I were taking. I did 23 minutes of sprints and pushed myself to the point of almost puking! I can’t describe to you the amount of sweat that was on me.. job well done! I went to the weight room which I am so loving at the hotel gym.. no annoying meat heads taking up the mirror space so I can see what I’m doing. I actually did about 20 minutes with different exercises from 30 Day Shred and others I’ve read, and a few machines. The trainer for the class was late, so we did the elliptical for a few then he kicked our asses for 20 minutes. TONS more weight training and abs and jumping jacks. Push-ups on the ball are great for the arms and core, but not so much in the looking-graceful department 😉 It was in a super small room and it was only Caitlin and I, so we more or less have a personal trainer for free! He was awesome and talked about the marathons he has ran and convinced me I need to do one before I die (I’m pretty sure I’d die during the marathon, just sayin.) It was an unexpected kick-ass workout and we’re going back for more tonight. Yoga and I might go for a swim after! I need to make sure all the peanut butter I consume gets used as energy for work outs 😉
What are you thankful for today?
Have you tried a new-to-you food recently that you now love?
What is your favorite nut butter?
I don’t think I need to answer this as I’m sure you know it’s peanut butter. My number one favorite is Trader Joe’s creamy natural, but their crunchy is amazing too. PS I only eat natural PB and have ALWAYS been this way- I never liked Jif or any of those sugary processed brands growing up!
