Hi!! This week has been insane for me and to top it off I have been so, so sick. This is the worst cold I’ve had in a couple years and has knocked me on my ass. I’ll do a quick re-cap starting with last weekend and bring you up to speed with what will be on today and/or Monday! 😉

Last Saturday night:

My usual pre-long run dinner (cheese-less chicken and onion Domino’s pizza), except I ate the WHOLE thing because on top of my long runs I now teach 3 spin classes on Sunday’s.

Brenda and I ran a great 8 miles Sunday morning and they felt pretty effortless for how little I’ve been running. Thank you, 1099 spin classes a week.

Followed up with my hour spin class that we had a ton of fun in. I used the same playlist that I posted here because I hadn’t used it in this class yet.

I started to feel sick this day and by Monday it was full throttle terrible sore throat. I stayed home from work but had to teach my 6:30 AM spin class because guess what? No one wants to sub at that hour haha I pushed through and came home to rest all day. My throat got worse and worse but it was my first night teaching at NuYu so I had to go. I drank a couple Emergen-C’s throughout the day and it at least took away the achy feeling and gave me a bit of energy. This was a 45 minute ride and more of a beginner’s class so I took it super easy and it was a great vibe! Here’s the playlist for that.


My throat was on.fire. after teaching even though the room at this gym is small and I didn’t have to scream, so I stopped at 16 Handles for froyo to soothe my throat. Great excuse, right?

I was off from work Tuesday but had to teach at 7:30 AM and I was feeling worse. I ended up feeling better for awhile after my class but that was just the momentary endorphins because by the afternoon I was dead again. I NEVER lose my appetite, and this week I have had to force myself to eat to have enough energy for my classes and to get better. I was in bed all day and night Tuesday with the hopes of feeling better for Wednesday morning because I had VIP tickets to…

Last week I was contacted by one of the producers of the show asking if I could film a few videos of myself saying some scripted lines, one of me working out and either stepping on a scale looking really happy or looking in the mirror proudly! I chose the mirror shot to keep it real since I don’t believe in the scale making you happy! 🙂

We got to sit right in the front row and it was awesome! Despite my coughing fits, it was a really great experience and Dr. Oz is a smart man. He mingled with the crowd more than I expected and I’m in a group shot with him that will be up on the Facebook page next week so I will post it then! So, my videos will either be on TODAY’S 4 PM SHOW (EST) or MONDAY’S. They were unsure of the schedule of shows yesterday and I have not heard back from them. Hopefully they still use me! haha

After the show (we were there for almost 4 hours and hadn’t eaten before) we ran to brunch because we were about to eat our hands. French toast at our favorite little french cafe, Le Grainne Cafe, that we have celebrated great things at!

This is the best french toast IN THE WORLD. It’s made with baguettes so it’s crispy on the outside and has an orange zest to it, topped with almonds and served with thin sliced ham, a couple little potatoes and fruit. I also had a soy iced latte that was so strong and so needed.

Latte = happy Jen. If you watch the show today or Monday, I am in the front row and this is what I wore! The shirt isn’t as dark as this pic shows and John had a red flannel shirt on.

After brunch, I went home to rest and had to head back out to sub the 7:00 PM class. I was the most sick at this point and losing my voice, but ended up having an amazing class. It’s funny how that works! I took it as easy as I could, which really means I was still working too hard. It’s hard to slack off when you have 20 people looking at you for motivation! You know how they say go ahead and workout if your cold is in your head, but don’t if it’s in your chest? Well it’s true. Working out Wednesday night made me feel 100x worse almost immediately after stopping, so I grabbed some Mucinex at CVS on my way home.

Definitely has helped a ton. For $27, it better. I REALLY hate taking medicine and almost never do since there isn’t a cure for the common cold but now that some of my income depends on me being healthy and able to workout I wasn’t playin’ around.

I made it through about 7 hours of work yesterday before I had to call it quits and go home. I was sweating through my clothes and feeling super weak so I molded myself back in my bed and today I’m feeling better. Still sneezing my brains out and coughing, but not as weak. Progress.

So yes, amazing news that I will be on the Dr. Oz show!! I’m sure I will be able to get the clip and post it here as soon as I can! Beware that it’s corny but I’m actually a pretty corny person haha

Just a Great Weekend

Hi loves! I hope your weekends were as fun as mine was. I really made sure to enjoy every minute of it and was able to do almost all of my favorite things with some of my favorite people. No complaints there! Friday night was low key and I was asleep by 10, and then slept until almost 10 AM. Needed it. I went to meet with a woman who owns a cycle/yoga studio to possibly pick up some classes and we ended up chatting for hours! She is awesome and I’m hoping I’ll be able to have some classes there.

John met me afterwards and I was HANGRY. We stopped and had brunch somewhere on the Upper West Side and I had eggs benedict ’cause it sounded real good. And it was.

Followed by lunch dessert, some warm fresh cookies from Insomnia Cookies. Yes, this is a cookie shop that is open until 4:00 AM and serves totally fresh cookies all day and night. Janae, is this your dream? 🙂

John had the bottom huge one which was smores and I had the double chocolate mint and chocolate chunk. I ate less than half of each and gave the rest to John. They are super rich cookies so just a couple of bites is plenty! We went back home for a little bit then headed to the 7:00 hot yoga class. Who are we, going to work out together on a Saturday night?! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I think it was the hottest vinyasa class I’ve ever taken and we were both drenched. I’m also still sore which is awesome.

Sunday morning I got up hoping to fit in 5 miles before teaching Spin but I overslept (what else is new) and only had time for 1.5 on the treadmill. I’m seriously failing hard at training for my spring half marathons which are starting in 6 weeks. Yikes! Brenda came to take my class which I love so much! She had to help me switch my bike halfway through because my seat kept sliding up (like as in the seat was literally pointing up in the air) and let’s just say it bruised me up good. I kept thinking I could just ride it out, literally, but it was violating me if you know what I mean. Ouch!

We showered quickly after class and grabbed brunch at Grey Bar before meeting up with the boys at the Museum of Natural History. It was so nice to have a little alone time with Brenda since we’re always insanely busy and usually meet up with the guys with us too. The food was super good and we have some plans to create a little business together. More on that when we know more!

Museum of Natural History was awesome. We saw a 25 minute planetarium space show that was mind blowing. It also made me extremely dizzy haha No pictures in there but here’s some from other parts of the museum.

You need an entire day to see the whole museum and I would rather stand outside naked in the cold than spend an entire day at the museum. I do NOT have that kind of patience! The boys went to get food at Shake Shack and Brenda and I got froyo at 16 Handles, our old stopping grounds.

Then it was Superbowl party time. John and I headed to the Upper East Side to party at my friend Alyse’s apartment with some of her awesome friends. We seriously had so much fun just eating a ton of delicious food, playing with her adorable puppy and playing the best card game of all time. A.k.a didn’t watch the game at all.

So Sick, So Sick Of Being Tired. And Oh So Tired Of Being Sick.

Please tell me you remember and love that my title today is from an old school Taking Back Sunday song? God, I miss being 15 and a punk rock/emo band lover. I will never stop loving them!
But on the real, I am so sick right now. I woke up Saturday morning with a pretty bad sore throat, knowing what was in store. My colds are pretty predictable and since I only get sick about twice a year these days, I’ll accept that they only last about 3 days. I worked all day Saturday and felt pretty crappy, so what better way to feel better than to eat a very large amount of pizza. I’ll go on the defensive and say the slices were about 1/3 the size of a normal piece of pizza and I got it with almost no cheese, just mostly sauce and then dumped lots of crushed red pepper, garlic powder, hot sauce and blue cheese all over it. I ate it in hopes that I would be still healthy enough on Sunday for a long run. My throat was still sore, but I set out for an incredible 10 miles, making it my longest run ever and first double digit run. It was one of the most beautiful days for a run, and I ran right along the West Side Highway running path on the water.

Amazing city I live in.


After stretching at the 14th Street subway stop because my train takes forever on the weekends, I made it home to foam roll, stretch, and strap on my compression sleeves for the rest of the day. I refueled with a ridiculously amazing bowl of pumpkin egg white oatmeal, with every topping I had in my kitchen pretty much.


Toppings: sugar free syrup, sprinkle of sea salt, raspberry preserves, coconut butter, coconut oil peanut butter, vanilla almond butter, cinnamon.

Eventually I forced myself out of bed and went to Central Park with Brenda, Dante and some other friends to relax and eat a whole bunch of junk. Chocolate covered raisins, pumpkin chips (AMAZING), guacamole chips, and all sorts of food that doesn’t create a real meal. It was awesome.

Once we parted ways, I had to get groceries but walked around for a few miles first. I ended up at 16 Handles all alone (it’s usually me and Brenda’s sunday ritual) and had a little date with myself. I busted out this Better’n Peanut Butter that I haven’t bought in forever. I don’t buy it as a sub for peanut butter because healthy fats do NOT scare this girl, but this stuff is amazing in it’s own way. Even more amazing on a cup of salted caramel froyo with crushed butterfinger and cinnamon toast crunch.

I won’t lie that some people in the room were probably judging that I was adding my own topping.

Good thing I don’t care. 🙂

I literally didn’t eat a real meal all day sunday besides that bowl of oatmeal. Sometimes it’s just fun to not care!

My cold was awful by yesterday and I just barely managed to finish the day out at work. Colds make me starrrrrving and coupled with the day after a long run, I knew I needed something large to eat. Enter: pumpkin protein cookie cake with banana “ice cream” for dinner.

Let’s get into the goodness of the pumpkin protein cookie cake first.


  • 1/3 cup pumpkin
  • 1.5 tablespoons coconut flour
  • 1 tablespoon protein powder (i used cookies n cream flavor)
  • 1/8 cup oats
  • 1 egg white
  • 2-3 tablespoons non-dairy milk (i used vanilla soymilk)
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • cinnamon, splenda, pumpkin pie spice

Mix all together and microwave for 4-5 minutes. It will be more like a cake I guess rather than a cookie, but more dense than a cake. For the banana soft serve, I threw the following in my Ninja:

  • About 1.5 bananas worth of frozen banana chunks
  • 2-3 ice cubes
  • Splashes of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 packet Splenda
  • Xantham Gum (for added thickness- this is optional)

I didn’t measure the almond milk because this was my first time making this. I probably added about 1/4 cup at first and started to blend, then kept adding a little bit more to get the desired consistency. It will take a few times of blending, lifting the lid and spooning a little around (and tasting 🙂 ) to figure out how you want it to be. But the outcome was amazing. It tasted just like banana ice cream/froyo but knowing that it was literally just made of bananas and a little bit of almond milk made it that much better. In a big bowl with my pumpkin protein cookie cake, topped with some Kashi cereal for crunch and a big scoop of Better’n Peanut Butter. Oh and a little bit of vanilla almond butter. I sneezed my way through eating this, but it was totally worth it.

I cannot stop reading old posts from one of my newest favorite blogs, STUFT Mama! I’ve been Instagram-ing when I make her pumpkin protein cookie dough, and that sparked my desire to turn it into a cookie cake last night. Her recipes and food in general are exactly what I love to eat, so her blog is a must read. She makes me want to have cute little babies just to make them delicious, fun and healthy food and take them running in a stroller! Okay, we won’t get ahead of ourselves here, but her blog is amazing. She is hilarious and real, so go read it 🙂

I will spend the rest of my day off sick and in bed, and bummed that I haven’t been able to work out since Sunday. It’s only Tuesday, I know, and I know I could have pushed it and tried to spin last night, but I think rest is more important while sick. I mean getting sick is a sign that our bodies need rest and to be taken care of better, right? I will keep telling myself that while I cough and sneeze all over my laptop. Beautiful.

Happy Tuesday! I had a great weekend despite having to work both days. I may be an adult but my 6 month break from the retail world really spoiled me with having weekends off! I started the weekend off on Friday after cleaning all day by having a marathon gym session, aka back-to-back classes. I started with a 20 minute HIIT treadmill session that felt amazing because I had just downed 5 cups of coffee! Then I headed to a total body class that was completely different from the first one I took last week, let’s say I wasn’t feelin’ it as much because the teacher was very “zen” if you will and way too slow. However, every inch of my body was burning from her very small motion moves and I was sore all weekend! After my HIIT and strength class, I was going to do a spinning class but that is one class I cannot take when I don’t like the instructor. She had the music too low so she could talk the whole time… I hopped off and performed my own private class on these awesome bikes that have a screen attached. 25 mins of intervals that I was choreographing to my playlist. I am definitely going to get certified in the next few months so I can be a teacher! I am loving spin so much!

After the gym I hung out at Caitlin’s and had some wine, then we went to dinner at the best place ever, Five Napkin Burger! I seriously am always in the mood for this place. Best homemade veggie burger, sweet potato fries, and the atmosphere is so fun and swanky! We started off with more wine while waiting for a table.

Saturday I worked and had a great lunch. If I work weekends, I treat myself with my favorite sandwich from Macaron Cafe. While I was waiting, the awesome girls gave me a free macaron. It was earl gray flavored and really good!

Saturday was St. Patrick’s Day and my job happens to be right on the path of the parade. That meant on lunch hour, the streets were so crazy.. it took me 10 minutes to walk 2 blocks! Everyone was drunk and it was hilarious. I was jealous, obviously. I met up with Caitlin after for some 16 handles froyo but was disappointed in the flavor selection. Where did no sugar added irish mint go?! I settled with a little angel food cake (way too sweet), cookies & cream and peanut butter. Too chocolatey for me.

Later that night John and I were going to go get thai food for dinner, but I was exhausted and wanted to explore our own neighborhood for once. We have done brunch once in our neighborhood, but there are a lot of good restaurants just blocks from us because the big Columbia Presbyterian hospital is around the corner from us! We ended up at Antika Pizzeria, which was super nice inside, dimly lit and really relaxing. I love that in a restaurant. I was really craving FAT, like badly. That sounds gross, and I don’t mean greasy or fried foods. I eat plenty of peanut butter (obviously) and avocado, which is healthy fat, but I was in the mood for something comforting and sinfully delicious. Enter: Caesar salad. If you weren’t aware that Caeser dressing is especially fattening, now you are. I have a thing for creamy, fatty salad dressings and I very rarely indulge anymore. This salad was thebombdotcom. Creamy, salty, cheesy, yum. Sadly, they put anchovies on top and I swallowed one down not even thinking what it was. I’ll never eat one again. YUCK!

The pizza was delicious, and after a few slices and my fatty salad, I was stuffed.

Dinner was my treat, so John decided to order dessert. How sweet of him, on my dollar 🙂 He chose the nutella pizza with strawberries and bananas, thinking it would be a small, personal pizza at best. He was wrong… very wrong.

I had a piece despite my fullness, and it was pretty good. Not life changing, and I definitely like crepes better. It was really really thin like a crepe, but not as good in my opinion. We waddled home after lingering for awhile, and I overslept and didn’t work out Sunday despite carb-loading. Oh well 🙂

This morning I enjoyed a yummy bowl of egg white oats with chia, banana, blueberries, Mila** and Better’n Peanut Butter. I also went to spin class at 12:15 because I was off today. It was my favorite instructor, and after class he told me he really wants me to get certified and to send him a playlist of music to spin to! Clearly he sees me singing and dancing the entire class. No shame.

9 miles

What a weekend.

Friday night was delightfully lazy. Cereal for dinner and watching a marathon of Law & Order SVU and Portlandia while cuddling with John is my favorite way to spend a night.

Saturday was work, followed by thinking I was going out to party for the night.. Until I got a surprise text from my running buddy asking me to join her for a long run with the Jack Rabbit running group! We hadn’t gone in a couple of months so I decided to stay in and be a nervous wreck all night 🙂 I get such bad anxiety before working out with other people! I love it once it’s happening though!

Sunday morning came and I headed down to 72nd street. The group had more people than the first time which was fun, and we all set out for a long run in Central Park at different paces.

We had a fast start, running 8-8:30 min miles and because of my anxiety and knowing I had to run for over an hour, I got burnt out fast. I wanted to run 8 miles so I slowed down and had a few others slow down too, which is why running with a group is so nice.. They’re super motivating and supportive! And they don’t judge you when you’re the slowest in the group and breathe like you need an oxygen mask 🙂

The first 5.5ish flew by, as we explored the park on the most gorgeous winter day. We stopped to use the bathrooms at the Boathouse and then continued on. The last miles were brutal and almost all hills. I wanted to stop at 8, but we had 1 more mile to get back to the store so we ran it back.

My longest run to date, 9 miles in 1 hour 25 mins and some change for an average pace of 9:27. Not bad at all!

Post run: grocery shopping, a very upset stomach, hot shower, egg white oats in a PB jar, 3 mile walk with Caitlin for froyo.

Snickerdoodle froyo, peanut butter cups, crushed cookie and cheesecake bites. Great lunch if I say so myself!

John met me for dinner at my new favorite place, Grey Dog Cafe in Chelsea. They play awesome music and have such good food; why go to one of the 9866 billion other restaurants in NYC when you have the best in one place?

Favorite meal maybe ever: sweet potato fries + a turkey and avocado sandwich on homemade 9 grain bread with honey mustard. 84% healthy.

I am weird and always have my legs in weird positions, even in restaurants. This is why I avoid fancy places, I don’t they would like my feet on their chairs..
