So Whiny.

I need about 24 hours to just sleep. To have NO plans, nowhere to be, and to just be in my bed sleeping, resting and catching up on the 4 seasons of Breaking Bad that we’re behind on. (seriously, we’re only 5 episodes in on Season 1. I had never heard of it being such a great show until this year so I never put thought into watching it) I literally NEVER get to do this anymore and one of them is my own fault. On my days off, which are not consecutive days off 95% of the time, I COULD choose to lay in bed all day, but knowing I have to go back to work the next day means I want to be productive. It’s a vicious cycle because now I am so behind on sleep and relaxing and I can’t stand feeling like this. I am the grumpiest, moodiest, most awful person to be around when I lack sleep. So it comes as no surprise to me that this morning I overslept by an hour and ended up having to cut my run short (only 9.5 instead of 11 which isn’t a huge deal, but if you’ve trained for a half marathon then you know… that 1.5 miles feels like 100). My stomach was off (due to lack of sleep) and I was just so exhausted I wanted to scream. The fact that I pushed myself to run at all feeling this way is a sign that I have gained mental strength!

Last night we started my carb-loading off the way we always do: pizza and froyo. Here’s what the delicious pizza looked like:

You may wonder why the hell I still bother to eat it like this but honestly, the dough and sauce are the best parts to me! Not to mention how many calories I save by taking the cheese off. I also get a side of marinara or spaghetti sauce to dip. It’s reeeeaaallll good, but yes- I do miss the cheese a little.

Isn’t it awesome that I match the wall? I’m pretty pumped that they already had pumpkin and gingerbread flavors out!!! I got both topped with nilla wafers, graham crackers, shredded coconut and Nutella. Byyyyyyyye.

Woke up an hour late so rushed around and had my half a banana with vanilla almond butter and coffee to go.

It took me an hour to get to my gym because early morning weekend train schedules? FUGGEDABOUTIT! I was SO tempted to just go back up the stairs and back to bed, but I somehow stuck around for the 35 minutes waiting for the A train to arrive.

It was muggy out, I felt dehydrated, my stomach was pukey but also growling (WHY does it do that) but finally I made it to 9.5 miles.

I had exactly 15 minutes to be showered and ready to go to work to begin my 12 hour day. On a Saturday. YEP, so fun.

Clearly not the best day and just in its entirety, this week sucked. Go easy on me upcoming week, can ya?

That Shit Is Bananas

B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Does anyone remember that Gwen Stefani song? Anywho, my day started off very banana-y. First, I found this amazing sounding coffee yesterday: Bananas Foster. As a dessert, I’m not a fan because I despise the taste of rum (bad memories from when I was 18, just like that Gwen Stefani song…), but I am obsessed with bananas and banana flavored things so I had to try this.

Delicious cup of coffee I awoke to, for sure. It served as fuel for my 3.5 mile run + the crazy strength circuit I made up. My abs hurt for the first time in a long time and I love being sore!

After the gym, I stopped at Starbucks for another cup of coffee obviously and had enough time to eat my breakfast there. It was an awesome treat to not eat at my desk, and I am so glad I soaked my oats overnight so I didn’t need a microwave! I am liking my simpler version of oats these days, with just 4 ingredients instead of 897. I now am just using 1/2 cup multi-grain oats from Trader Joe’s, 1/2 scoop banana protein powder (told you I was obsessed), chia seeds and tons of cinnamon. It soaked overnight in unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and this morning I topped it with the usuals; sliced bananas and creamy peanut butter. Yums!

I bring a snack for the afternoons because I always get hungry on my way home from work or sometimes before, but I can usually last until lunch without a snack. I guess my metabolism is revving again from working out because I was really hungry 4 hours after I ate breakfast, so I broke into my emergency stash of cocoa roasted almonds. It’s why I always keep something healthy to snack on in my purse!

Lunch was another salad mess with randoms from my fridge: lettuce, edamame, feta cheese, beets, chicken burger, guacamole, balsamic and mustard. It worked!

Afternoon snackage was what I was excited for all day. I blended together:

  • 1/2 packet Vega vanilla chai powder
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 packet Splenda

So good. A tub of the Vega powder is too expensive, but the packets are around $3 so I will just continue to buy 1 when I am in the mood for it. Maybe this summer when I want smoothies more I’ll invest in the tub because it’s so healthy and delicious!

I kept it lean and green for dinner last night. I defrosted an ahi tuna fillet and cooked it up with broccoli and green beans. I spread a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese on the tuna and topped the greens with organic ketchup & parm cheese. So so so good. After dinner I had my new favorite mix: plain greek yogurt + tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder + honey + banana or strawberries = best healthy treat ever. Try it!

I’ve always loved Law & Order: SVU but now I’m just straight up addicted. John and I do nothing at night now but eat dinner fast then watch a marathon of SVU on Netflix. It’s the only show that I don’t fall asleep during. Oh, and Workaholics! That show is hilarious!

And now I’m off for a 3 miler in my neighborhood since I overslept this morning. Central Park, I’ll see you Friday 🙂
