Spin, Babies, Rocksbox

Hey hey! Wow, look at me posting twice in a week’s time! 🙂 I loved the comments from some of you guys who have been reading for a long time and it made me feel more connected again. I’ve had a few friendships blossom from the blog and it’s really special. Thanks for still reading!

Backing up to last week and last weekend, my best friend Brenda taught her first spin class so of course I had to be there! She came to my first one almost 2 years ago and the experience of taking your friends fitness classes are just so fun. Or maybe we are just huge fitness dorks. Our friend Mandy came too and we screamed our heads off the whole class. We ran into our friend Dante there too and it’s because the gym is our love language. Friends who sweat together, stay together right?

IMG_0699

I even made it to a BODYPUMP class last Friday morning! I know you probably don’t believe me because it’s been like a year since I strength trained but I took a picture for proof.

IMG_0704

I used crazy light weights on the bar for all of class and I was still sore for about 4 days after. Trying to go 1-2 times a week from here on out!

The Pope was here last week but no, I did not see him. I don’t love crowds and figured my chances of seeing him were slim. Turns out, basically anyone who was near 5th Avenue got to see him! I should have went. I’m not super religious but I do believe, and this Pope seems like such a good person. My grandma would have loved him.

IMG_0700

Last Saturday, after I worked all day, we met up with Brenda and her husband and Ruby for Brenda’s birthday. Funny how our idea of fun for a birthday is now a maximum of 3 hours of socializing and bed by 9 PM. We hung out at Central Park and let Ruby experience all that is ‘nature’ in New York City (aka not much).

IMG_0727

Followed by delicious thai food and a mango cake that we had to keep Ruby’s hands out of. Poor thing is teething and she devours her hands or really anyone’s hands the first chance she gets.

IMG_0728

Sunday morning I taught 2 killer spin classes at Simply Cycle Astoria. We thought it would be funny to take a picture and show the world that I killed them during class. It got dramatic.

IMG_0734

And lastly, I need to tell you guys about a super cool monthly ‘box’ that I finally fell in love with. Honestly, I’m approached by a lot of companies about putting their products on the blog and that’s why you rarely see any from me. I only will write about what I have interest in, and if you know me then you know fashion is a huge part of my life. Rocksbox is an awesome monthly box that costs $19 per month and you receive 3 amazing pieces that are selected by a stylist based off your profile that you fill out. You can make a wish list and at least one of the items from your wishlist will be in your monthly box! You can keep the items as long as you want, ship them back to receive new items, or buy the items at a discounted price. Pretty sweet options if you ask me.

IMG_0759IMG_0715

Honestly, I forgot to take a picture of the 3rd item that came in the box because I wasn’t impressed with it at all. Which is fine, because the other 2 items were TOTALLY me! Let’s start with this necklace that I haven’t taken off in 2 weeks. I have worn it with everything from a plain nude sweater to plaids and it truly goes with everything.

IMG_0723

This is called the ‘Olivia Necklace’ by Perry Street. I am so obsessed. Rocksbox will occasionally slip in some ‘shine spend’ which is a credit towards purchasing the jewelry. I have $10 in my account right now and am still debating between this necklace or the awesome Loren Hope earrings I also received in my box.

IMG_0735

Hard choice! I of course want both but I’m trying to be good! 😉

You can get a free month of Rocksbox with my code artificiallybalancedxoxo 🙂 If you love jewelry and are wanting to try new pieces without committing to buying them, or you need a special piece for an upcoming event, I can’t recommend Rocksbox enough. I am sending back the 3rd piece that I didn’t like and either the earrings or the necklace tomorrow to receive my next box! Rocksbox has generously gifted me 3 months of the service to try in exchange for promoting it to you guys! Let me know if you end up using my code and of course if you do, show me what you get! As soon as I receive my next box, I will post what I get.

What’s your favorite type of jewelry- necklace, earrings, bracelets or rings? Mine is a tie between necklaces and amazing rings! However, I have HUGE fingers (I wear between a 9-10 size) so nothing ever fits me haha

Ruby is here! (+some other updates)

Hey there! It’s been a little while again but I’m still here! The biggest/best thing that has gone on since I wrote last is that my best friend Brenda (ya’ll know her on here by now!) finally had her baby a week ago today!! I got to be there for the whole time she was in labor (about 17-18 hours) and now her gorgeous little babe is here in our world. Of course we made our time at the hospital a blast…

Obviously she had her Spinning water bottle with her.. homegirl took a spin class the day before this! My hero.

Obviously we watched Broad City all night long <3
Obviously we watched Broad City all night long ❤

And finally at 9:25 AM, Ruby came into the world!

Ruby and Daddy!
Ruby and Daddy!
I am finally an Aunt!! :)
I am finally an Aunt!! 🙂

She is absolutely perfect and I am so excited to start my journey as an Aunt! I also fell even more in love with Brenda watching her become a mommy. One of the most special moments of my entire life!

And on to other stuff…

I don’t want to go on about too much right now but lets just say I’m still dealing with anxiety. I am learning how to manage it/accept it/live with it more than I was. It’s a really hard, AWFUL process but I focus on each hour and just getting through it. I know this won’t last forever but it certainly feels like it is going on forever.

So while I am still on a hiatus from teaching Spin, I have been going to CYC at least 3 times a week and running here and there. Running is SO hard after taking basically all winter off and not being at all consistent. Here’s what my running is looking like right now (in the spirit of keeping it real)

IMG_8514

I’m doing some run/walk intervals but nothing set- just running until my lungs feel like they are going to explode (thanks, allergies) and then walking a bit. Getting past 2 miles right now feels sooooo hard. A good friend said the other day to me that training for the first 3 miles is always the hardest when getting back into running and she is so right. Once I can consistantly/easily run 3 miles again, I’ll start training for longer runs. I don’t have a half marathon or any race at all right now planned until October, but I may try for a 5 miler at the end of next month. CYC is so amazing and hands down the best spin classes I’ve ever taken! They are so motivating and SO fun, plus super challenging but I can feel myself getting stronger. If you are in the NYC area, let me know if you want to try a class with me!

Natalies class from this past Saturday!
Natalies class from this past Saturday!

This past weekend was an absolute blast. John’s mom came to visit us and we took her to most of our favorite spots- of course you need at least a full week with us for us to take you to alllll of the best spots 😉 Friday night started with Patsy’s pizza and a walk down 8th avenue from 23rd to 14th St to show all the fun gay culture through Chelsea- she loved it!

Saturday morning we headed to brunch at Le Grainne Cafe, our absolute favorite place for french toast and delicious coffee. This is hands down the best french toast in the city.

IMG_8507

We strolled through Chelsea Market and Union Sq, then I took a quick class at CYC and met back up with them in Soho at Harney & Son’s tea. From there we walked through Soho to a few other stores, then took the 6 uptown to show her Grand Central. I always forget how magical Grand Central is until I’m seeing it through someone else’s eyes!

It started raining so we cancelled our initial plan of walking from Grand Central to Times Square and just headed to dinner. We had to of course take her to our favorite, 5 Napkin Burger, as we take pretty much everyone who visits us!

Sunday morning we headed to one of our favorite bagel places, Absolute Bagel, on the Upper West Side. This is right near the gigantic cathedral on 110th st that we wanted to see. We’ve been past it a million times but never actually went in until Sunday! It is so huge. Definitely a must see here.

IMG_8515

We walked all through Central Park and took the train down to the West Village to get Big Gay Ice Cream…obviously 🙂 We were pretty exhausted so we ended the trip by heading back uptown to Trader Joe’s and last but not least, Shake Shack. If you can’t eat red meat or cheese like me, they have chicken sausage dogs that are incredible!

IMG_8520

According to my FitBit we walked about 10-11 miles total for the weekend!

Fill me in on your lives!! What’s new?! 🙂

Food, Sun, Best Friend & A Celebrity = Great Weekend

Is the title of my post not extremely obnoxious? I never claimed to be creative, ya’ll. I’m so sorry with how MIA I have been lately but I am hoping for a very positive shift in a big area of my life where I will be a whole lot less stressed, and therefore have the energy to do anything other than just drop into bed fully clothed and fall asleep at 8:30 PM. That has been happening almost every night for the last few weeks. Long story short: I miss writing! So I apologize for the abundance of pictures coming your way, but last weekend was nothing short of amazing so I want to share 🙂

First off- the amazing weather that we’ve had for not even a full week yet. I celebrated one day last week by wearing my new J Crew shorts that I scored for $22 through their factory website, and these great gladiator sandals from Forever 21. Be proud of my artistic angle. This was the same week that it also snowed. WTF.

photo 1 (1)

I also need to spread this PSA and say that if you hate low-rise jeans and don’t wear anything other than workout clothes because of it, try Express jeans. They have the perfect amount of stretch that let you breathe but don’t make you look like you are wearing denim leggings or “jeggings”- that word alone terrifies me. The anchor printed shirt is also from Express and I have been living in it.

photo 2 (2)

Okay, not to food. John and I had a little Friday night date at 5 Napkin Burger and it ended in a huge dessert that we actually could both eat. Waffles, ice cream, raspberry sorbet and whipped cream. I ate half of the waffles and all of the sorbet while trying to not eat the whipped cream but of course I did.

photo 3 (1)

Saturday morning I taught Spin then enjoyed the absolutely gorgeous day with Brenda. We walked around all day (probably close to 6 miles) and carbloaded. We got froyo, then lunch (omelettes and french fries, that’s how we rollll) and while we were sitting at the diner Brenda saw Elijah from Girls walk by to the deli next door and pick out flowers. We hadn’t paid yet so we rushed to the counter to pay while I stalked the front so as to not let him get away. When he exited the deli, I bolted at him like a complete freak and literally scared him. He was physically trying to get away from me when I approached him yelling “OMG YOU’RE THAT GUY FROM GIRLS!!” because I could not remember his characters name for the life of me. He laughed, still trying to walk away, while I asked him for a picture and admitted that Brenda and I had been stalking him. I literally screamed into the entrance of the diner “BRENDAAAAAA!!!” and she came running out. It resulted in a very awkward/terrible selfie that Brenda made me crop her out of, but I left her cheek in it.

photo 4

It’s been awhile since I saw a celeb so I was pretty stoked. Looooove my NYC!

We decided to actually be fun for once and went out with my co-workers for a drink, and then of course landed at Lombardi’s since we were in SoHo and hadn’t eaten dinner yet. Awesome friends, awesome pizza, awesome way to end a carbload.

After a late night out, waking up early to run and teach wasn’t easy but it ended up feeling so great. I dressed like an easter egg for our easter run of 7 miles through the park.

photo 5 (2)

Such a dork. Followed by teaching THE BEST spin class I have taught so far. The energy was incredible, everyone was working hard, having so much fun and singing along. We all sweat some serious buckets and I’m still riding that high days later. Have I mentioned how much I love teaching?! 🙂

How was your Easter weekend?

More/Fitness Half Marathon

Half Marathon #5 was completed this past Sunday with my best friend Brenda. Truthfully, it was the worst race I can ever remember running. It was unexpectedly hot and we were dehydrated and completely over it from the start. We finished 4 minutes slower than our first half together last year (and 12 minutes slower than my PR), but this one included multiple walk breaks and about a 5 minute stop at the port-a-potties at mile 5, so we are still in much better shape than last year! At the end of the day, all that really matters is that we got out there and did what we could and we did it together which was automatically a blast.

photo 1

Stuffed our faces afterwards at brunch with my new post-race ritual of chocolate chip pancakes, eggs and turkey sausage.

photo 3

Followed by a pedicure that John treated me to. BEST IDEA EVER to get one after a half! The leg massage was so great. I broke my right big toe in half during this race along with worsening the permanent blister below my 2nd toe on the right side, too. It was a pretty painful pedicure to say the least. photo 4

I taught spin Monday morning with SO much less soreness than last month’s half! I ended up finishing last weeks training with 99 miles total of running and cycling. Insanity.

photo 3

My brother came to visit Monday night and stayed with us all day yesterday and John was also off of work from the day. We had a blast. Drew came to my spin class with me Tuesday morning and KILLED it! It was his first spin class ever and of course he beat me in mileage. Boys. Then we went to brunch with John, went back home and laid in my bed all day watching TV and napping. Dinner was Domino’s and POPEYES FRIED CHICKEN because we were just in need of a fat day. We ate super early and took another nap, so on the way to the bus station at 10 PM we stopped for froyo at Orange Leaf where they were selling froyo for $4.15 regardless of the weight of the cup for tax day. We ball hard. photo 4 (1)

It was a super fun few days and I’m paying for it today in exhaustion and bloat 😉

Did any of you guys run the More/Fitness half last weekend? What did you think if you did or did it in the past? I just can’t pay $80 to run in Central Park again. Not when I run it for free and not when the swag bag is absolutely terrible!

Too Much Junk.

Happy Tuesday!! Despite my exhaustion of working 7 days a week right now, I LOVE having Tuesdays off to just teach a class in the morning and then relax, or pick up other classes if needed. I have been reallllllly, really tired the last few days. Blame it on PMS fatigue (again?! ALREADY!!?!!) because I didn’t even do my long run on Sunday morning. Brenda and I had planned to do 10 miles before my spin class, but she forgot her running sneakers at home and I was literally relieved. Just so not into running right now because I’ve gotten so out of the groove the last few months. We ended up walking a few miles and then going back to take my class. I met John for brunch after at a place I saw on a blog last week (can’t remember what blog) where the girl got apple, bacon and eggs benedict ON french toast. Uh yeah, I needed to try that.

photo 4 (13)

This was at The Noho Star which is super cool inside. This dish was admittedly way too rich for me. The combo of the fatty hollandaise sauce, bacon, and super thick french toast left me feeling pretty gross but no regrets. I felt way too full for 6 hours until we finally walked it off. Then, we just dove back in for more fat. John LOVES Asian culture and food and always takes me to cool places that I would never go to on my own. We went to K-Town (Korea Town) which is located near Herald Square (34th street area) and is a street lined with all kinds of Korean BBQ places and other Asian cuisines and bakeries. It’s a really cool area and I highly recommend it if you are visiting for an off-the-beaten path type of NYC experience. He took me to get this crazy purple pork bun that was outrageously delicious and only $2.50!

photo 5 (10)

We then went to a place I’ve wanted to try since we moved here, Bon Chon chicken. They are popular for their organic fried chicken wings with an addicting choice of sauces, either plain soy garlic sauce or spicy soy garlic sauce. I had the spicy wings and John had the non-spicy chicken fingers. They boast their totally non-greasy chicken for a reason.. there was literally not an OUNCE of grease on these.

photo 1 (15)

OMG unreal. They are so good and didn’t hurt my stomach even a little. That’s both a good and bad thing, because now I just want to eat these every day. I somehow think my arteries would prefer if I did not do that. I ate half and took the rest home for the next day… until I ate them in bed as soon as I got home. I got froyo on the way home and also only ate a little and successfully saved the rest for Monday night. Partial win.

Last week, my awesome friend Emily sent me the Lululemon Vinyasa Scarf I was obsessing about a couple of weeks ago that has been sold out! She works for them in Denver and told me as soon as they got it. It’s black with white/gray stripes and is everything I dreamed of. She also sent me some samples of protein powder and face wash and serums that I will post about as soon as possible! She is great. The scarf is on the left, along with an awesome cute mint green bra I picked up on sale there for $19 and a bang busters headband that is everything. I finally became an R&D member which is where Lululemon will give you 15% off your purchases if you are a certified yoga, fitness or dance instructor or a personal trainer. Extremely dangerous, extremely awesome. I am obsessed with their accessories so that’s mostly what you’ll see me spending my discount on. Sorry for the terrible picture below, it was 9 PM and I was falling over from exhaustion.

photo 2 (21)

Monday morning was the exact definition of a Monday. I was up at 4:30 to get to my 6:30 spin class in Brooklyn, and I get up that early to make sure I am a little early in case of train problems. It hasn’t happened yet, but of course it was bound to. Monday it was bound to. It took so long to get to even midtown that I made the executive decision to get out at Bryant Park (42nd st) because the D train was not moving and the F train (the train that takes me to the gym) hadn’t shown up in 30 minutes. I figured I could get a cab easily, but that was not the case. 10 minutes later (that is a long time for a cab) I finally did and the guy hauled ass to Brooklyn. I looked back on the bridge into Brooklyn and had this gorgeous view.

photo 3 (15)

It was not ideal to spend $20 to go teach, but the class was good and of course made it all worth it. To be defeated before 6:30 AM is not even a little normal so I didn’t let it bother me. Just gotta brush your shoulders off and laugh! #WorkingOnIt

Following spin, I worked for over 9 hours then taught another class. Besides my classes, the highlight of my day was my lunch. I walked to my usual salad place and a new Mediterranean place had opened next door that was giving out samples of their falafel. I have never had falafel that i actually liked, it’s always way too dry for me. These were SO good and really small. I got a few and an eggplant pita sandwich with lots of beets, pickles and super spicy tahini sauce.

photo 4 (14)

Dinner after teaching was put together in 2.5 minutes and definitely did not cover most of the food groups.

photo 1 (16)

Piece of a baguette John got me from Amy’s Bread toasted with coconut oil and salt, and my leftover froyo. Please don’t judge, I was out of my apartment from 4:45 AM-9:03 PM. This is where meal prepping is a savior, another thing I’ve been far too tired and busy to do. I was asleep 5 seconds after eating this and up again at 5:30 to teach my 7:30 class. It was AMAZING as it always is. It’s my favorite class of the week! I will post the playlist tomorrow. I foam rolled for awhile before and after because my left hip and glute are in really bad pain the last few days.

photo 2 (22)

I was subbing the 12:15 class so I walked a few blocks to Dumbo Kitchen for breakfast, iced lattes and studying to kill time.

photo 3 (16)

I had 1 over-medium egg, 1 egg white, potatoes with onion and peppers, dry wheat toast, sausage and bacon. I ordered turkey bacon but it was most definitely not. I didn’t eat it because it was insanely greasy but overall the food was good. I also had an iced soy latte and half of an apple cinnamon muffin a little while after. I have to admit- studying is really hard for me. I have complete ADD when it comes to reading things even when it’s of the utmost interest to me, so I am not very far into this yet. It’s also so hard to find the time right now, but I’m going to try harder to make time to study. I walked back to the gym at noon and no one signed up so I made my way to midtown to leave my stuff at my other gym and go for a run. Ya’ll know I HATE to run in the afternoon or night, especially after I’ve eaten, but the sunshine and 65 degree weather was too amazing today.

photo 4 (15)

I also wanted to run to test my hip and glute since I am running the NYC Half this weekend and have basically done no training at all. It isn’t smart to run it, but it was too expensive to not try. I had to stop multiple times in the 45 minutes I was running to stretch and overall I am SO out of running shape. My last few runs have been with Brenda so it always just flies by and we don’t even notice but this was insanely tough. I was probably running 12 minute miles which is exactly why I didn’t turn on my RunKeeper app. Just used my heart rate monitor for the time length and enjoyed the gorgeous day.

I refueled with an almond milk honeydew bubble tea. Understand the title of this post now? It’s been a non-stop junk fest the last few days. Eek!

photo 5 (11)

My plan is to try to run the half this weekend but take it super easy and walk as much as necessary. I made a physical therapy appointment (my 1st one ever!) for next Tuesday after reading about this place on Abby’s blog. If they accept my insurance I will definitely be going but I have to wait for them to contact me back. I’m praying they do because a sports physical therapist is who I need to go to to figure out my constant IT band/hip/knee/foot problems on my left side. Spin class was making it feel better for awhile and now it seems to be irritating it so I want to have them check everything- my running form, if my sneakers are wrong (I’ve been “fit” for wrong sneakers twice before at running stores so I don’t know who to trust!) and if my spin bike form is wrong, too. I just want to be a pain-free athlete! I know they will scold me for the lack of strength training I do, but I swear once this half is over I am aiming for just 2 days a week of strength. It’s going to be hard to fit it in between my classes, but I don’t want to be in pain anymore!

Have you gone to physical therapy or sports therapy? It’s the first doc appointment I’ve ever been excited for!

Playlist + Coconut Bagel

As promised in my last post, lemme give you the playlist of the week. It was a gooooood one. We jammed out really hard and I can’t wait to play it for my Sunday class! By the way, I was offered another permanent class at The Fitness Guru! I will now be adding a 6:30 AM Monday morning class to my schedule. So, so excited and really hope I’ll get a following at that time slot.

photo 2

Let me know if you guys want me to post the actual workout too, not sure if that’s boring or useful!

So after my class Tuesday morning, I stopped by Brooklyn Bagel to get a bagel and go straight home to bed. I left upstate with a cold and felt REALLY crappy before my class so I knew I needed to spend the rest of the day just resting and didn’t have much food at home. I got a – wait for it- TOASTED COCONUT BAGEL. With raisin walnut tofu spread, but that doesn’t even matter. I’ve never seen a coconut bagel anywhere in my life! It was so freaking good… especially enjoyed in my bed, right Erika? 😀

photo 5

By the way, if you go to a bagel shop and they offer tofu spread you should try it. Even if you aren’t lactose intolerant. It’s basically impossible to tell the difference yet the tofu is better. I’ve never had straight up plain tofu spread because I don’t like plain cream cheese, but the flavored ones are so great!

My body is craving veggies a lot this week so I’ve delivered. Last night I made a nice little vegan dinner for no reason other than this is all I had and was too hungry to wait for eggs to cook to put on this. Just diced up sweet potato cooked in coconut oil with broccoli, onion and some broccoli slaw stir-fry. Hot sauce and Cattleman’s honey mustard on it.

photo 3

Oh that sauce is probably not vegan somehow but anyways this was so good and wasn’t missing meat at all!

And this morning, I FINALLY RAN OUTSIDE!!!!!!! Like, got out of bed and ran. This is a miracle, ya’ll. I’ve ran outside a total of 5 times this year and am soooo out of running shape. I’m not going to believe my GPS when it said I was running 10:05 miles this morning because it felt like I was MAYBE running 11:30’s. Either way, I ran for 42 minutes and it wasn’t freezing and I was REALLY happy to be out there. Central Park looked gorgeous, and the sun just felt ridiculously amazing. Stopped after 2 miles to pee because I literally always have to pee 2 miles in, bad enough that I really do have to stop.

photo 1

The glorious bathrooms of Central Park. That winter running hoodie I have on is SO comfortable and sooo fluffy; it adds probably a good 10 pounds to me. Not that it’s heavy, but it is so unflattering haha It has a zipper on the left side where you can stuff a lot in it and it just kinda sits on your lower stomach. Not ideal, but it’s warm and was $15 at TJ Maxx. ‘Nuf said.

I’m just praying it will stay in the 30’s for the remainder of the winter. 30’s I can handle, and no more snow. PLEASE.

What is the best thing you ate this week?

WHO IS SO EXCITED FOR SPRING TO ALMOST BE HERE???? Worst winter of my life.

Happy Friday! (+YAY!)

Thank you guys so much for all the sweet comments on my Anniversary post! I’m glad you enjoyed the picture sequence and didn’t find my post too mushy 😉

As you know since I work in retail, Friday’s don’t mean the end of a work week for me but I do have Sunday off so that is something to celebrate! John is going upstate tonight to spend the weekend with his mom for her birthday and I am so bummed I can’t go. But alas, I have to work tomorrow. So that means I will be spending this evening going to hot yoga again AND tomorrow evening too! I will be eating my weekend pizza alone and that’s sad, but it does mean I get to watch all the Kardashians I want without John trying to suffocate me 🙂 Anywho, let’s go over some week highlights besides my lovely anniversary!

I actually forgot to post this but I had the best turkey burger of my life last Sunday night at Sullivan Bistro. It was topped with onions and blue cheese and the fries were unlike any I’ve had before. SUPER thin and crispy with sauteed onions throughout them. I have a serious love affair with onions and it’s probably why I don’t have many friends. Trust me, it’s worth it.

photo 1 (1)

I also received my new sneakers that I got for $15 on Amazon! That’s only because I traded in a textbook but so cool right? I actually had these last year but sent them back after not liking how much mesh there was but I REALLY have not been loving the Wave Precision 13’s I’ve been wearing at all. These are the Wave Elixir 8’s and they feel ALMOST as great as my precious 7’s.

 photo 2 (1)

photo 3 (1)

Yep, still wearing shorts on any day above 39 degrees. So far they feel really good but my left foot is still feeling really wonky and overall I am out of running shape. My pace has been faster than it was in the summer/fall but everything feels hard. So much for “staying in half marathon shape” after all my fall races!

So on my lovely anniversary date when we went to get coffee after dinner, I treated myself and ordered a chai tea latte instead of just a normal coffee. I COMPLETELY forgot to order it with soy milk and drank the whole thing without realizing my mistake. I was up most of the night Wednesday and in pain all day and night with some of the worst stomach pains of my life, thanks to the dairy milk and also partially from the sugar since I never drink things like that. I can’t believe how sensitive I am to it now!

Besides my stomach pain, I taught a great spin class last night and was so happy when one of the students told me she was brand new to the gym and it would be her first class. I can proudly say that I made her feel comfortable and she stuck through a little more than half of the class before leaving, which I told her she could do. I would have loved for her to stay on the bike even if she couldn’t keep pedaling, which I also told her she could do, but I also know that other students would have been looking at her wondering why she wasn’t pedaling so the option to leave really helped her. I smiled at her a bunch of times during class and I REALLY hope I made an impact on her to come back! I will truly never teach a class where I intimidate or call people out. What is the point? We’re all there for a purpose but the main thing needs to be to have fun! And to feel motivated without someone screaming orders at you. I think I really deliver that. Jeesh, I just want to teach all day!! 🙂

Oh and my pre-workout fuel before spin was amazing. I watched the first two episodes of this season’s GIRLS (available for free here!) while chowing down on a bowl of banana oats with Biscoff, a splash of almond milk, and a tiny bit of crumbled carrot cake from my anniversary.

photo 5 (4)

photo 1

Perrrfect. We ended up throwing the rest of the cake away because the frosting was just TOO much.

And I began my day with a very chilly 3.7 mile run in Central Park. I underdressed for the first time during a winter run and it’s NOT fun. My ears were so cold and my sinuses are going to bug me all day now. I also got back to the gym to no hot water, so I had to take a cold shower. It was pretty awful, but what can ya do?!

The cold sucks but this sunrise does not.
The cold sucks but this sunrise does not.

And to save the best for last…

photo 4

I GOT INTO THE NYC HALF MARATHON!!!!!!!! They reopened the lottery and I got in this round!!! It was completely a surprise because I had forgotten all about it, then I saw someone post about it on Instagram and quickly logged on to my NYRR account and boom! Boom to my credit card too, because I wasn’t ready for that expense 😉 It’s the priciest race I’ve done so far ($117) but I am SO EXCITED!! Running through Times Square with no tourists around is going to be ahhhmazing.
