Comedian + MORE SPIN

Happy Saturday people! I hope you’re outside enjoying the sunny, warm weather (if you’re in NY) and not stuck in your office all day like me. I would literally do anything to just spend today walking around the city and Central Park, especially since this week it’s going back into shitty weather. I really pray that this is the last couple of weeks of cold.

So I had a super good week full of possible opportunities that I can’t say anything about right now, just keep positive thoughts for me if you can 🙂 On Thursday night, I was invited to a fashion show for Brooks at City Sports, but couldn’t get there until it had already been going on for an hour.

We missed the actual fashion part of it but I REALLY wanted to try to find a pair of Brooks that I actually liked. I’m trying so hard to be able to run in Brooks… not for any reason really other than Mizuno discontinues the shoes that always are amazing for me and doesn’t replace them with ones that are ACTUALLY comparable. I tried the Pure Project line and none of them feel right, along with the Ravenna’s. I’m running in the Elixir 8’s now and they had 1 pair in my size left in the blue color (I have the pink now) super discounted so I grabbed those. I felt bad buying Mizuno’s at a Brooks event, but you have to run in what’s right for you! They did give us cool swag bags that have little travel bags and a super cool glass water bottle.

While we were inside the store I saw this man who looked just like Jeffrey Gurian, a comedian that we’ve seen on Kroll Show and I KNEW it was him. He’s pretty hard to miss. He was walking to his car when we left and at the last minute I ran over and knocked on his window because I just had to know if it really was him. And it was! He was SO SO SO nice! I’ve met quite a few celebrities living here and he is by far the nicest one. I’m sure he doesn’t get stopped a whole lot, but the man is amazing. Check out all the work he’s done!

It was one of those awesome, super random nights you only have in NYC. Love it.

This was a day-before-pay-day broke as a joke dinner which was leftover stir fry veggies with a fried egg and hot sauce/honey mustard. Super good though and it’s dinners like these that I need to keep eating in lieu of take out or cereal because I’m lazy. Light, fast and healthy!

This. This was amazing. I’m so obsessed with chai tea latte’s but avoid them because of the sugar, but when I saw this Spiru-tein chai latte dairy-free protein powder I had to grab it. I tried some with just almond milk and it’s not that great alone but I mixed up this little ice cream bowl and it was SO good.

  • 1/2 scoop Spiru-tein chai latte protein powder
  • 1.5 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp loose-leaf chai tea
  • Stevia to taste
  • 5-6 ice cubes

Blend all together and stuck in the freezer for awhile, topped with dairy-free mini chocolate chips (I truly love these more than regular choc chips!) and PB. Yaaaaaaaaas! Now that I’m teaching a lot of classes a week, I’m going to up my protein a little for recovery and since I don’t like to eat a lot of meat (read: can’t afford to) I’m bringing back some dairy-free protein powders just to use like this at night.

As for the more spin topic of this post, I am going to be teaching at another studio! I met with the owner of NuYu Revolution, Susan Rappaport, about a month ago and I finally got to take a class with her yesterday morning and the concept of her very small spin/yoga/pilates space is wonderful; the class sizes are never larger than 10-11 people, so it’s a very personal experience. She knows your name, your fitness level, and what she needs to do to get you to come in and get your workouts in. You join her gym when you need someone who WILL call you if she notices that you have skipped a few workouts. I absolutely love it and really hope it’s a place I can grow with. I will be teaching there Sunday early evenings and Monday nights. That means with my classes at 24 Hour Fitness, The Fitness Guru and NuYu, I will be teaching 7 classes between Sundays-Tuesdays! Along with half marathon training, I’m overwhelmed in the best way possible! 🙂

Sweet Potato Hash

It’s been a pretty blah, boring week. Nothing of note to report on. I’ve had a headache every day and been an emotional mess thanks to my monthly friend, so I’m just hanging by a thread. My 4 mile run yesterday was my first one since my 10 mile race on Sunday and it did NOT feel good at all. I think I felt something pop in my left hip during the last 2 miles and my hip hurt the rest of the day. That trickled down to my knee and my foot so I decided to take today off and rest. I guess this is my taper? I’m planning to run tomorrow but definitely not Saturday. I’ve also been stress eating too much candy/sugar this week but the positive in that is that it is nothing compared to my old ways of stress eating! But still, I didn’t need 2 snack size dark chocolate mounds (which are amazing by the way) and a dark chocolate Reese’s before bed last night. It did taste damn good though 😉

I’ve been so lazy about dinners lately, but one delicious meal I made for dinner on Tuesday was a hit. I tried to recreate the hash I get at brunch with what I had on hand. The result was fabulous and I’ll definitely be stocking up on what I need to make this for dinner a few times a week!

Sweet Potato Hash:


  • 1 sweet potato, chopped up
  • Diced up onion (however much you want) & green onion/scallions
  • Red bell pepper, diced up
  • Whatever meat you want… I used a chicken sausage
  • 1 Egg
  • Hot sauce/ketchup (optional)

I sauteed the sweet potato, onion and bell pepper in coconut oil. I put the sweet potato chunks in for about 5 minutes by themselves first because they take awhile to cook. Toss them all in garlic powder and any other spice you want. Cook up the meat in a separate pan and toss in with the potatoes/onions/peppers for another minute or 2. Fry up an egg, plate the hash and throw that runny egg on top. Top with hot sauce, ketchup, whatever your heart desires!

I love hash for dinner because you can throw in whatever vegetable and protein you want on it, plus it really doesn’t take long at all. If you’re like me and love to eat breakfast for every meal, this is perfect. A regular potato works too, I just love the sweetness of a sweet potato against the salt.

In other news… I TOLD YOU that writing about my workout plans jinx’s (?) me. As soon as I posted yesterday… my knee started to ache really bad and it hasn’t in months. I iced it last night and didn’t run this morning, but it’s still really achy. Since it happens every so often I’m not freaking out about it, and I’ll continue to ice and foam roll tonight and try an easy run tomorrow. If it still is achy Saturday, I won’t race the 5K I’ll just be casually jogging it. No need to get a time goal just to get injured! Ugh, I swear that EVERY TIME I do any amount of speed work I end up in pain. I pushed the pace on my 4 miler yesterday and bam, pain. Really annoying when trying to get faster/ train for 9 races!

Other than that, it’s been a pretty uneventful day. It’s rainy and humid in NYC and I’m exhausted, despite sleeping a ton. The only thing I have to share is my delicious snack from yesterday afternoon.

That would be a coconut Chobani (2%, absolutely makes the difference) with coconut cinnamon cocoa roasted sweet potato chunks. Stop what you’re doing and make these. The coconut CHO is out of this world!

In terms of supplements/ vitamins you take as a runner/athlete- what do you use? I really need to start taking glucosamine chondroitin and fish oil, both of which are supposed to be great for joints.

Random Rambling

Look at me posting twice in one month already! Woo hoo. How was your weekend? Mine was spent at work so… Yeah. I had a lot of school work to do so I didn’t go to a party I wanted to on Saturday night, and I had to mute the Super Bowl until Beyonce did her thang so I could finish a paper, but the important thing is I am really making school a top priority this time around. I did have dinner with one of my amazing friends Erica on Friday night at a tiny wine bar in Hell’s Kitchen called Gallo Nero . I had to sit out of the wine consumption part of dinner since I drank last weekend and my body really didn’t handle it well at all (due to my new medicine, I think) but we had the best time catching up! That girl is just great for the soul 🙂


Saturday night after work I got some pizza slices and curled up with my date for the night: my big, sexy Accounting book. Too sexy for a picture, really. Don’t get too jealous ladies and gents; he is an asshole. He’s confusing and doesn’t like to talk or help at all. Typical.

Inbetween trying to understand journal entries and balance sheets, I watched The Switch on Netflix that I have been dying to see. I loved it! I am a sucker for chick flicks, and completely in love with both Jason Bateman (loved him in Arrested Development) and Jennifer Aniston. Yummmmm. This was my ideal Saturday night. Minus the homework of course 😉


Were you an Arrested Development fan? It’s one of my all time favorite shows and it’s coming back for a season this spring on Netflix! My love for Netflix grows every day.

On a fitness related note: I continue to oversleep and not even hear my 20 alarms I set from 4:45 AM to 6:30 AM. So no work out since last Wednesday, but I am surely well rested and that makes it A LOT easier to eat healthy. Happy to report that my pants are fitting pretty great despite lack of exercise! I’ll be going to spin class tonight though since I finished some homework last night to make sure I could go! Beyonce really inspired me last night. She is SO FIERCE I can hardly handle it.


Since I had no Super Bowl plans, I saved myself probably 4,000 calories and made some whole wheat pasta with lots of shredded cheddar cheese, a little butter, garlic powder, sea salt, crushed red pepper and jalapenos. No pic but it was SO GOOD. In no way is whole wheat pasta a “cheat” type of food, I just cannot stick to one portion of it so I eat it only when the craving really strikes. Cause I dominated like 1/2 of the box. No shame in my game.

And in my last ramble for the day, I will be eating oatmeal for lunch most days this week because I quite honestly have $7.71 to last me until I get paid this Friday. Last night I bought a few cartons of eggs (only $1.35 per carton at one of my ghetto grocery stores, flippen awesome) bananas and cheese and it will last me the week. Luckily I don’t get bored with food easily! I also have other food I will use up this week, like oatmeal, coconut flour, cocoa powder, enough peanut butter to feed a 3rd world country, etc so for breakfast I switched it up and made a protein PowerCake. This girl has awesome recipes that are really creative!

Dark Chocolate Banana Powercake

  • 2 tbsp coconut flour
  • 2 tbsp Hershey’s dark unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 mashed banana
  • 2 packets sweetener of choice
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 egg whites
  • Splash of almond milk

Mix thoroughly and microwave for 4-5 minutes, checking every few seconds after the first 2 minutes. These cakes can overflow your bowl quickly so keep an eye out and just pause the microwave and it will shrink again!

I also made PowerCakes strawberry chia jam for the topping. I used:

1 cup frozen strawberries with 1/4 cup water, microwaved for 2 minutes. Mash up the strawberries with a fork, and add 1.5 tbsp chia seeds and 2 packets sweetener of choice. Mix well and put in the fridge overnight. The chia seeds will absorb the liquid and turn into a jam! I also topped it with coconut oil peanut butter. This was such a great alternative to oatmeal!


It’s gonna be a busy week that will end in a fun filled weekend! I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I am thinking I need to fess up to my wisdom teeth pain and try to schedule them to get taken out. I am literally PETRIFIED of surgery and I would almost rather be in pain than have them out. What is your experience with wisdom teeth removal?
