Comedian + MORE SPIN

Happy Saturday people! I hope you’re outside enjoying the sunny, warm weather (if you’re in NY) and not stuck in your office all day like me. I would literally do anything to just spend today walking around the city and Central Park, especially since this week it’s going back into shitty weather. I really pray that this is the last couple of weeks of cold.

So I had a super good week full of possible opportunities that I can’t say anything about right now, just keep positive thoughts for me if you can πŸ™‚ On Thursday night, I was invited to a fashion show for Brooks at City Sports, but couldn’t get there until it had already been going on for an hour.

We missed the actual fashion part of it but I REALLY wanted to try to find a pair of Brooks that I actually liked. I’m trying so hard to be able to run in Brooks… not for any reason really other than Mizuno discontinues the shoes that always are amazing for me and doesn’t replace them with ones that are ACTUALLY comparable. I tried the Pure Project line and none of them feel right, along with the Ravenna’s. I’m running in the Elixir 8’s now and they had 1 pair in my size left in the blue color (I have the pink now) super discounted so I grabbed those. I felt bad buying Mizuno’s at a Brooks event, but you have to run in what’s right for you! They did give us cool swag bags that have little travel bags and a super cool glass water bottle.

While we were inside the store I saw this man who looked just like Jeffrey Gurian, a comedian that we’ve seen on Kroll Show and I KNEW it was him. He’s pretty hard to miss. He was walking to his car when we left and at the last minute I ran over and knocked on his window because I just had to know if it really was him. And it was! He was SO SO SO nice! I’ve met quite a few celebrities living here and he is by far the nicest one. I’m sure he doesn’t get stopped a whole lot, but the man is amazing. Check out all the work he’s done!

It was one of those awesome, super random nights you only have in NYC. Love it.

This was a day-before-pay-day broke as a joke dinner which was leftover stir fry veggies with a fried egg and hot sauce/honey mustard. Super good though and it’s dinners like these that I need to keep eating in lieu of take out or cereal because I’m lazy. Light, fast and healthy!

This. This was amazing. I’m so obsessed with chai tea latte’s but avoid them because of the sugar, but when I saw this Spiru-tein chai latte dairy-free protein powder I had to grab it. I tried some with just almond milk and it’s not that great alone but I mixed up this little ice cream bowl and it was SO good.

  • 1/2 scoop Spiru-tein chai latte protein powder
  • 1.5 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp loose-leaf chai tea
  • Stevia to taste
  • 5-6 ice cubes

Blend all together and stuck in the freezer for awhile, topped with dairy-free mini chocolate chips (I truly love these more than regular choc chips!) and PB. Yaaaaaaaaas! Now that I’m teaching a lot of classes a week, I’m going to up my protein a little for recovery and since I don’t like to eat a lot of meat (read: can’t afford to) I’m bringing back some dairy-free protein powders just to use like this at night.

As for the more spin topic of this post, I am going to be teaching at another studio! I met with the owner of NuYu Revolution, Susan Rappaport, about a month ago and I finally got to take a class with her yesterday morning and the concept of her very small spin/yoga/pilates space is wonderful; the class sizes are never larger than 10-11 people, so it’s a very personal experience. She knows your name, your fitness level, and what she needs to do to get you to come in and get your workouts in. You join her gym when you need someone who WILL call you if she notices that you have skipped a few workouts. I absolutely love it and really hope it’s a place I can grow with. IΒ will be teaching thereΒ Sunday early evenings and Monday nights. That means with my classes at 24 Hour Fitness, The Fitness Guru and NuYu, I will be teaching 7 classes between Sundays-Tuesdays! Along with half marathon training, I’m overwhelmed in the best way possible! πŸ™‚

As you know since I work in retail, Friday’s don’t mean the end of a work week for me but I do have Sunday off so that is something to celebrate! John is going upstate tonight to spend the weekend with his mom for her birthday and I am so bummed I can’t go. But alas, I have to work tomorrow. So that means I will be spending this evening going to hot yoga again AND tomorrow evening too! I will be eating my weekend pizza alone and that’s sad, but it does mean I get to watch all the Kardashians I want without John trying to suffocate me πŸ™‚ Anywho, let’s go over some week highlights besides my lovely anniversary!

I actually forgot to post this but I had the best turkey burger of my life last Sunday night at Sullivan Bistro. It was topped with onions and blue cheese and the fries were unlike any I’ve had before. SUPER thin and crispy with sauteed onions throughout them. I have a serious love affair with onions and it’s probably why I don’t have many friends. Trust me, it’s worth it.

I also received my new sneakers that I got for $15 on Amazon! That’s only because I traded in a textbook but so cool right? I actually had these last year but sent them back after not liking how much mesh there was but I REALLY have not been loving the Wave Precision 13’s I’ve been wearing at all. These are the Wave Elixir 8’s and they feel ALMOST as great as my precious 7’s.

Yep, still wearing shorts on any day above 39 degrees. So far they feel really good but my left foot is still feeling really wonky and overall I am out of running shape. My pace has been faster than it was in the summer/fall but everything feels hard. So much for “staying in half marathon shape” after all my fall races!

So on my lovely anniversary date when we went to get coffee after dinner, I treated myself and ordered a chai tea latte instead of just a normal coffee. I COMPLETELY forgot to order it with soy milk and drank the whole thing without realizing my mistake. I was up most of the night Wednesday and in pain all day and night with some of the worst stomach pains of my life, thanks to the dairy milk and also partially from the sugar since I never drink things like that. I can’t believe how sensitive I am to it now!

Besides my stomach pain, I taught a great spin class last night and was so happy when one of the students told me she was brand new to the gym and it would be her first class. I can proudly say that I made her feel comfortable and she stuck through a little more than half of the class before leaving, which I told her she could do. I would have loved for her to stay on the bike even if she couldn’t keep pedaling, which I also told her she could do, but I also know that other students would have been looking at her wondering why she wasn’t pedaling so the option to leave really helped her. I smiled at her a bunch of times during class and I REALLY hope I made an impact on her to come back! I will truly never teach a class where I intimidate or call people out. What is the point? We’re all there for a purpose but the main thing needs to be to have fun! And to feel motivated without someone screaming orders at you. I think I really deliver that. Jeesh, I just want to teach all day!! πŸ™‚

Oh and my pre-workout fuel before spin was amazing. I watched the first two episodes of this season’s GIRLS (available for free here!) while chowing down on a bowl of banana oats with Biscoff, a splash of almond milk, and a tiny bit of crumbled carrot cake from my anniversary.

Perrrfect. We ended up throwing the rest of the cake away because the frosting was just TOO much.

And I began my day with a very chilly 3.7 mile run in Central Park. I underdressed for the first time during a winter run and it’s NOT fun. My ears were so cold and my sinuses are going to bug me all day now. I also got back to the gym to no hot water, so I had to take a cold shower. It was pretty awful, but what can ya do?!

I GOT INTO THE NYC HALF MARATHON!!!!!!!! They reopened the lottery and I got in this round!!! It was completely a surprise because I had forgotten all about it, then I saw someone post about it on Instagram and quickly logged on to my NYRR account and boom! Boom to my credit card too, because I wasn’t ready for that expense πŸ˜‰ It’s the priciest race I’ve done so far ($117) but I am SO EXCITED!! Running through Times Square with no tourists around is going to be ahhhmazing.Β

I’m Alive!

Ugh, I sincerely apologize for being THE LAZIEST person ever last week in terms of updating the blog and I apologize to myself right now that I took an entire week off from working out and ate nothing but junk. My stomach is not happy with the amount of sugar I chomped down the last week, and a few days of a break from working out turned into a full week because once I start getting a ton of sleep instead of waking up at 4:30 AM it is SO HARD to start getting up. Add in the cold weather and I need a huge kick in my ass. Any takers?

Last week was fun though. John and I went to see an awesome comedy show/podcast recording with some of our favorite comedians. This is a horrible picture but we were in the front row and the lighting makes it impossible to get a clear picture with the iPhone camera.

This was Todd Barry, Sarah Silverman and Natasha Lyonne from my favorite show, Orange is The New Black! They went on for almost 2 hours and it was only $15 a ticket. Suhweeeet.

We then went to the best chinese place ever near the venue, Michael & Ping’s. Their food is WAY healthier than your normal Chinese take-out and about 1000x better tasting, too. I got the “Main Mein Salad” which is cold sesame noodles with chicken and veggies with a spicy peanut sauce on it.

Halloween was a super fun day starting with a little work party. Every year I want to dress up and be creative and every year I fail miserably by not having enough time to plan anything. I went with my go-to costume, a.k.a all of my own clothes and personal style, Rachel Zoe.

After work I went to Brenda’s where we threw together a costume we had talked about dressing up as for almost a year. Again, we are the worst procrastinators ever. I think we nailed it minus the wigs?

Either way, a shoulder-padded blazer and ugly sweater vest (sorry Eddie!!) are always funny.

My volunteering session at the NYC Marathon expo Saturday, held at the Javits center, was one of the best experiences of my life hands down. I got there at 8:00 AM and volunteered til 2:00 and I got to hand out the bibs to the runners. The amount of smiling, extremely excited and happy faces I got to talk to made me the happiest I’ve been in a long time. The organization of volunteering was on point and it could not have been easy to organize. Over 50,000 bibs were picked up from this expo over the course of 3 days. I probably waited on 200 myself! I CANNOT wait for it to be me picking up my bib next year! πŸ™‚

John met me after my shift and we walked around the expo for awhile. Of course I had to stop by the Mizuno booth and got the VIP treatment without actually being a VIP πŸ˜‰

After explaining to the very knowledgeable dude that I am losing sleep over Mizuno not making my beloved Wave Elixir 7’s anymore (yes I tried the 8’s and didn’t like them) he made me try on 4 different pairs until I found the right ones to replace them. I wasn’t going to buy but they were offering them for 20% off so I did. In a few weeks after I put some more miles on these, I will be wearing the Wave Inspire 9’s. They feel a lot like the Elixir so I pray they work out for me!

I didn’t get a chance to eat during my volunteering so John and I hit up 5 Napkin Burger for a late lunch. I usually get the veggie burger but decided to go for the special of the day which was a turkey burger stuffed with herbed goat cheese, cranberry ketchup and crispy shallots. MOUTH WATERING.

This was then followed by falling asleep at 4:00 PM. I will recap the marathon tomorrow. I watched for a couple of hours and it was so freaking amazing. I just cannot wait for next year!

Sunrises.

While the rest of today went sour, this morning was wonderful. I only slept 5 hours the last 2 nights, but I had an early meeting and needed to get some miles in so I woke up at 4:30 AM (like, ACTUALLY at 4:30 not just set my alarm but not roll out of bed til 5:30) chugged some coffee and started my run while the sun was rising.

I rarely run on the east side but I needed a little variety from my Central Park route, and I’m glad I caught this. I don’t blog about the details of the heavy shit in my life, but I can assure you… it’s heavy. There are days I have no idea how I’ve made it through the last year and a half, but seeing a gorgeous sunrise like this kinda restores some of the lost faith. Every day for the last year and a half has been a struggle. I think I’ve cried at some point every single day for however many days a year and a half makes. I haven’t felt like myself in a long time, but running is one thing that makes me feel normal for at least the minutes I’m in motion. No price tag on that.

Sooo.. let’s get off that heaviness πŸ˜‰

Another reason the morning was great is because I tested out these Mizuno Wave Precision 13’s that I bought a few weeks ago on sale when I was visiting Syracuse. I have been wearing the Mizuno Wave Elixir 7’s for the last year and I have loved them so, so much. The only problem is that they don’t make the 7’s anymore and I returned the pair of 8’s I tried. They were different and didn’t feel good on my feet at all. So I snagged the last pair of 7’s I could find earlier this year and just need to move on and try another kind. Realistically, the color of these is what sold me.

Freaking obsessed. When I wear these to walk in, I literally can’t stop looking down. Oh, and I purposely wore a purple top to match today. #dork

 

The first thing I noticed about these is that they fit my feet a bit tighter, narrow-wise. My elixir’s now feel HUGE on my feet after walking in the Precision’s and now running in them. They make me naturally fall a little more forward and heel strike less, which is a huge plus. I took them for a 4.5 mile test run and they felt really great so I have to figure out what to do from here. My Elixir’s still have at least 2 months left in them and at over $110 a pop I need to wear my sneakers as long as possible πŸ˜‰ I have a 10 mile race on Sunday so I will stick to my Elixir’s for that, but I may wear my Precision’s for tomorrow and Friday’s runs and just keep them to 5 miles or less.

Yeah. Trader Joe’s went there. Apple cinnamon goat cheese. It is seriously one of the best things I have ever tasted. Plop it on a hot roasted sweet potato like so:

This has been an amazing snack this week. I am so thankful goat cheese does not hurt my stomach!

I take back what I said in the first sentence of this post. The rest of my day is NOT ruined because tonight is the season premiere of LAW AND ORDER: SVU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I don’t work tomorrow!!! Two AMAZING things I need right now πŸ™‚

Please tell me you are a Law and Order: SVU fan?? If not, you can’t read my blog anymore. Kidding! But please, go watch it. I anticipate a stroke during tonight’s episode due to my heart exploding with anxiety.

Labor-less Weekend

Happy Labor Day! Hard to believe this is really the end of summer, but this is the first time I’m not so sad to see it go. I love fall and I just can’t take much more humidity. Definitely getting old. This is also my first holiday weekend/holiday off in a LONG time. After working every holiday since I started my current job almost 2 years ago, I decided it was time for me to have one off and enjoy some family time. John and I headed to his moms house in PA Friday night and had a stress-free weekend which I desperately needed.

I started Friday by sleeping in, getting homework done for the weekend and running a great 5 miler. Upon arrival late Friday night, we devoured a pizza after not eating since early afternoon. I had planned to do an 8 miler Saturday morning so I carbed up, but I slept in and decided I would try it Sunday instead. Breakfast tasted much better up in the ‘country’ thanks to homemade strawberry jam.

We drove to Syracuse, NY to spend the day shopping at Destiny USA. This is the mall that I grew up going to because it was much larger than Binghamton’s dinky mall. They have expanded majorly and I was pretty impressed with their new store selection. The 90+ minute drive meant a Tim Horton’s iced cappuccino was in order to fuel me.

I ended up getting a dress to wear to one of my best friend’s wedding in a few weeks and a pair of Mizuno’s that have been sold out in my size everywhere! Once I try them out tomorrow I will post them and tell you what I think of them.

We ended up eating dinner at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill which is something John and I probably would have avoided at all costs seeing as how much we hate country music and everything that comes along with it. But I had heard they had good food and we all love some bbq, and I am now really glad we ate there! The food was super good, though the service was not. Be prepared to have a long wait (even though there were TONS of open tables) and another wait to be served. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was the best pulled pork I’ve ever had!

The day ended with eating way too many Lindt chocolate truffles (coconut, sea salt, citrus- OH MY!) and a mean case of an allergy attack. My head was full of so much pressure and pain that I laid in bed until 7:00 AM until I finally fell asleep for a few hours. I’m really allergic to cats and John’s mom has a few of them, so I always take some allergy medicine and it still doesn’t help. But I LOVE being up there so it’s completely worth it! I have the BEST future mother-in-law ever πŸ™‚

Before we left to catch our bus back to NYC, we had a cook out. This was truly the highlight of my summer since cook outs aren’t exactly prevalent in NYC. Cook-outs DEFINE summer for me, and of course makes me miss my grandma so so much. John’s mom did not disappoint and cooked up delicious chicken spiedies (what Binghamton is famous for) and fresh vegetables from her garden.
