Memorial Day Weekend

Hey guys! How was your Memorial Day weekend? It’s SO crazy to think that I’ve already been at my ‘new‘ job for a year now, and that this is my second Memorial Day weekend actually NOT working and getting to enjoy 3 days off.. still SO thankful for leaving retail 🙂

Friday night I was so exhausted for kind of no reason, so John and I went to dinner right after work and then fell asleep pretty early watching Louie C.K. Wild party animals. Saturday morning started with breakfast at the diner then we spent the day with Brenda and the baby! John went to a concert Saturday night so I had a wild night on the couch with some cheese-less Domino’s and a marathon of one of my all-time favorite series, Weeds. I am beyond obsessed with Mary Louise Parker and LOVE Andy! Any other Weeds fans? And no- I do not smoke pot! Just love the whole feel of the show.

Sunday morning I made my awesome breakfast bagels for John and I. I cook pretty dang good eggs and bacon if I do say so myself. Even John loves them, which is saying a lot. Mine was a whole wheat everything bagel with a jalapeno egg white omelet folded up, bacon, and a runny egg. PERFECT!

IMG_8544Followed by a healthier lunch of a super green juice with chia seeds. This had all organic kale, chard, spinach, ginger, green apple, cucumber and then topped with chia seeds. My seasonal allergies are absolutely horrible this year and the worst part is that they completely exhaust me. I constantly feel like I just ran a marathon this time of the year.. it’s awful. So trying to add more greens in hopes of feeling a little more alive.

After walking around Central Park we ended up downtown having dinner at this awesome BBQ joint- Mighty Quinn’s. Absolutely deeeelicious and perfect for a holiday weekend when we have nowhere to cook out (boo, NYC).

Yesterday morning I slept in, enjoyed some oatmeal and coffee then headed off to a super intense CYC class. So it’s a 45 minute class and I burn between 375 (slacking off) and close to 500. Keep in mind that 4 songs worth are spent barely peddling and using weights for arms- so it’s a REALLY good burn and even though the weights are light (range from 1-5 lbs) my arms are always sore.

After class I headed to Brenda’s to kick it with my favorite little gals. I love this baby sooo much!

And ended the holiday weekend with a little bit of froyo, a lot of cookie dough pieces. YOLO.

What did you enjoy this weekend?

Don’t End, Weekend.

I get really sad on Sunday’s because I just don’t want the weekend to end, even when I have to work. I have felt pretty under the weather this weekend but had to push through and teach 2 spin classes and finally get my ass in gear with a long run to prepare for my spring half marathons. That of course takes lots of food to fuel so here’s a look at what I’ve been chowing down on since Friday!

We saw on Scout Mob that this italian restaurant called Three of Cups on the Lower East Side had a 50% off deal up to $25 off, so we went down on Friday night to eat up. I had the grilled calamari to start and it came with a really spicy marinara sauce which was great.

I also had a panzanella salad which is one of my favorite types of salads, but it was pretty bad so I only had a few bites of it. The pizza was DELICIOUS though. It had a really smoky taste to it almost like it was grilled.

Lots of iced soy lattes were had. Also, a homemade poptart at Birch Coffee. 100000 times better than a real PopTart, I swear!

Fantastic 6 mile run with Brenda. Of course because it was with her the 6 miles literally flew by and felt like we were running for maybe 20 minutes at the most. Looooove that!

Followed by one of the most awesome spin classes I’ve taught thus far. I was endorphin high from the run and just had a ton of energy even though my legs were toasted. I felt like my ques were perfect (still learning!) and everything just flowed really well. Let me share with you the playlist since I haven’t in awhile!

There is some repeats from other playlists because the songs are just too good. I was also wearing my new favorite sports bra and top that I got from Victoria’s Secret big sale.

This is me forgetting that my flash is on. Let it be known I am NOT a selfie expert.

I had to go right into work after my class but this morning on my way to the gym I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and grabbed a donut that I have been wanting to try as my reward after my 2+ hour workout. I burned almost 1,200 calories during it so a 400 calorie donut as a treat is just right. It’s the cookie dough donut and I BEG you to try it. I am NOT a donut person at all, like they just don’t do anything for me but this is life changing.

I balanced that out with a nice big veggie filled salad. I was actually totally craving a crunchy cold salad so this is not for penance 😉

That about wraps it up.

Oh, I also am so sorry I lied to you guys and didn’t end up posting my thoughts on The Biggest Loser finale. I am actually still working on it and will post it soon, just be warned that I decided to get really personal in it and that’s why I want to keep working on it in hopes that it will help someone going through what I went through.

What did your weekend look like?

Do you like donuts? If yes, favorite flavor or shop to get them at? The big debate in upstate New York is Dunkin Donuts vs. Tim Hortons. I LOVE Timmy Ho’s for their iced caps but I’d say DD’s takes the cake for donuts. Er, takes the donut for… the donut. Ha 🙂

Labor-less Weekend

Happy Labor Day! Hard to believe this is really the end of summer, but this is the first time I’m not so sad to see it go. I love fall and I just can’t take much more humidity. Definitely getting old. This is also my first holiday weekend/holiday off in a LONG time. After working every holiday since I started my current job almost 2 years ago, I decided it was time for me to have one off and enjoy some family time. John and I headed to his moms house in PA Friday night and had a stress-free weekend which I desperately needed.

I started Friday by sleeping in, getting homework done for the weekend and running a great 5 miler. Upon arrival late Friday night, we devoured a pizza after not eating since early afternoon. I had planned to do an 8 miler Saturday morning so I carbed up, but I slept in and decided I would try it Sunday instead. Breakfast tasted much better up in the ‘country’ thanks to homemade strawberry jam.

We drove to Syracuse, NY to spend the day shopping at Destiny USA. This is the mall that I grew up going to because it was much larger than Binghamton’s dinky mall. They have expanded majorly and I was pretty impressed with their new store selection. The 90+ minute drive meant a Tim Horton’s iced cappuccino was in order to fuel me.

I ended up getting a dress to wear to one of my best friend’s wedding in a few weeks and a pair of Mizuno’s that have been sold out in my size everywhere! Once I try them out tomorrow I will post them and tell you what I think of them.

We ended up eating dinner at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill which is something John and I probably would have avoided at all costs seeing as how much we hate country music and everything that comes along with it. But I had heard they had good food and we all love some bbq, and I am now really glad we ate there! The food was super good, though the service was not. Be prepared to have a long wait (even though there were TONS of open tables) and another wait to be served. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was the best pulled pork I’ve ever had!

The day ended with eating way too many Lindt chocolate truffles (coconut, sea salt, citrus- OH MY!) and a mean case of an allergy attack. My head was full of so much pressure and pain that I laid in bed until 7:00 AM until I finally fell asleep for a few hours. I’m really allergic to cats and John’s mom has a few of them, so I always take some allergy medicine and it still doesn’t help. But I LOVE being up there so it’s completely worth it! I have the BEST future mother-in-law ever 🙂

Before we left to catch our bus back to NYC, we had a cook out. This was truly the highlight of my summer since cook outs aren’t exactly prevalent in NYC. Cook-outs DEFINE summer for me, and of course makes me miss my grandma so so much. John’s mom did not disappoint and cooked up delicious chicken spiedies (what Binghamton is famous for) and fresh vegetables from her garden.

Team Salamida all the way.

And fresh fruit. The raspberries were JUST picked from her garden. Amazing.

My other favorite part of being up there? Her pug Lola.

Pugs & Pumpkins. LOVE!

I didn’t get my long run in but I’m heading out to get it done now. Another perk of having a holiday off!

How was your Labor Day weekend? Did you work or were you off?

What defines summer for you?

weekend re-cap

Happy (belated) Halloween! I dressed up as Rachel Zoe for work yesterday & for Caitlin’s party Saturday. I didn’t have to spend a dime since fur vests and huge sunglasses are staples in my wardrobe 🙂 This weekend was fun and a little bizarre to have a snow storm in October! Back track to Friday… I’ll let the pics do the talking!

baby food as a snack? delish.
biggest pear ever. not pictured: peanut butter (duh)
I look horrible but had to post it because it looks like "fart" is behind John (it said earthlings?).
5 Napkin Burger date- veggie burger on multi-grain w/ extra pickles & sweet pot fries! ❤
all bundled up for pumpkin froyo at 16 handles!

It was a pretty wild (and indulgent!) Friday night and we were in bed by 11. We slept until noon Saturday which I haven’t done in years, and woke up to a white out snow storm! I love snow especially now that I don’t have to drive in it. I walked to the grocery store to get breakfast ingredients which included eggs, fat-free reddi whip, pumpkin and LIFE CEREAL! It’s one of my favorites, it was on sale and I haven’t had it in at least a year (name brand cereal is very expensive in nyc!). I made John whole wheat french toast and some pumpkin oatmeal protein pancakes with warm diced apples for me 🙂

With plenty of fat-free reddi whip

We watched a marathon of Arrested Development and spent the whole day cuddling while it snowed 🙂 You can work up quite the appetite being lazy, so I had a huge bowl of Life cereal with a banana and peanut butter.

Slept some more, then got ready to head to Caitlin’s halloween party! She had an amazing spread of mini carrot cake cupcakes, chips, hummus & veggies and CAKE POPS DIPPED IN PEANUT BUTTER CHIPS!

Rachel Zoe!

my 3 favs!

We drank lots of wine and decided not to go out in the snow storm. John and I picked up a piece of pizza on the way home thanks to the alcohol, and it was amazing! Not for my waistline, but whatever.

drrrrrrrunk pizza

I slept a whopping 3 hours before I was wide awake and watched Fashion Hunters on Bravo… Love that show! I decided to get grocery shopping out of the way and walk off some of the alcohol. I got off at 116th st and on my walk got invited to breakfast with Caitlin and her friends, so I went on down to 51st and had a delish $3.50 breakfast at Galaxy. I had egg whites, 7 grain toast & potatoes. Aka perfect hangover food!

I spent the rest of Sunday walking around the Upper West Side and ended the day with a coffee date with John at Bourbon Coffee on 14th Street. If you live in NYC or visit, try to go there. They made my pumpkin spice latte with REAL pumpkin instead of gross sugary syrup! They also have the most amazing dessert called a “Jedhi bar” which is a layered cookie bar of graham cracker, dark chocolate, coconut and coffee/cocoa powder. We get it every time and share it. My phone had died at this point since I walked all day, so no pic.

Yesterday morning I woke up feeling super stuffy, so I made a big green monster smoothie with some egg whites for breakfast.

Due to the snow storm Saturday, the power, internet and HEAT was out at work. Apparently Jersey got a lot more snow than NYC. Yet we still stayed doing absolutely nothing for 7 hours. Luckily I had snacks but I wasn’t able to eat my oatmeal for lunch because we had no hot water or microwave. I had a big apple with peanut butter, and a greek yogurt mixed with PB2, fiber 1, a banana and peanut butter. AKA not enough food for me.

We ended up finally leaving at 4 instead of 6, and Caitlin and I had BIG plans of hitting the gym… but our growling stomachs got the best of us. Not to mention we’re both fighting a cold courtesy of hangovers and freezing cold temperatures. We were starving for chinese, so we found a place in her neighborhood for some take out and headed back to her place to watch Sex and the City and chow. I learned my lesson with the fried chinese I had upstate, so I got steamed chicken with steamed broccoli with absolutely no oil, and a side of steamed vegetables.

It was so good and now I know I can eat chinese and have it be healthy! We also indulged in some dark chocolate since it was Halloween and all. We went walking around her neighborhood and I continued on a stroll up the Upper West Side and got to enjoy some costumes. I walked a lot Sunday and Monday but it was my only real exercise. Obviously this weekend was super indulgent and void of vegetables, so I was happy to hop back on the running train this morning!

Sorry for the crazy long post, I have to stop being so busy shoveling food in my mouth on weekends and make time to blog! 😉
